Bruchsal asparagus – a regional delicacy

Here in Bruchsal everything revolves around this noble vegetable during the asparagus season which starts at the end of April and runs through to 24th June, Saint John’s Eve. On the theme "Fresh from the field to the table", you’ll not only be spoiled by the Bruchsal gastronomy with traditional asparagus specialities but also by unusual combinations. The baroque town itself also offers a lot of interesting takes on the theme of asparagus.

The secret of the Bruchsal asparagus is the loose, fine sandy soil of the Rhine Valley and the many hours of sunshine, which characterise its fine taste and is the reason for our asparagus being in such great demand across Germany and the neighbouring countries.

“Tour de Spargel” – experience nature and culture by bicycle

The 108 kilometre Tour de Spargel (“Asparagus tour”) is not only a highlight for cyclists during the asparagus season. With its mild, almost Mediterranean climate the Rhine Valley is home to wonderful landscapes and unique sights. You can find a list of sightseeing excursions, leisure activities, as well as bike rental and repair stations along the Tour here or here.

A guided tour along the asparagus cycle route will be held as part of the bicycle bicentenary on 30 April, 2017. For more information, contact the Bruchsal tourist information board on 07251 5059460.

The Badische Spargelstraße (Badisch asparagus road) was inaugurated as the 21st tourist route in Baden-Württemberg in June 1994. Initially, it stretched from Schwetzingen to Bruchsal but was extended the following year. Leaving Schwetzingen it first passes along the L599 country road through Reilingen and then continues on through Bruchsal, Karlsruhe, Rastatt to Scherzheim. Read more about the Road here.
